E-book Download Quick Start Guide

About Your Library’s Download Service

Your library’s download service is available via a ‘Virtual Branch’ website. It is a service of your public library and powered by Overdrive. It’s available at:

 

downloadcentre.library.on.ca

or

MyPublicLibrary.ca and click on the icon

 

Your library has selected a collection of popular titles in digital formats that are available anytime, anywhere.  You can Browse, Check out, and Download popular eBooks from your library’s website-  a ‘Virtual Branch’ website that includes many of the same services of a regular branch!

What You  Need  to Get Started

· An Internet connection via PC, Mac®, or selected mobile devices.

· A valid library card

· Free, required software available at our library’s website.

        - OverDrive Media Console

        -Adobe Digital Edition

 

Step 1– Download Adobe Digital Edition

1. Go to the library’s home page at www.MyPublicLibrary.ca

2. Click on the ‘Download Audiobooks’ icon. This will open a new browser displaying the Ontario Library Service Download Centre - the library’s ‘Virtual Branch’.

3. Within the Digital Software box (left hand side) click on Adobe Digital Editions for eBooks.

4. Select “To Download Adobe® Digital Editions, click here”. This will open a new browser with Adobe-Digital Editions webpage.

5. Scroll down the page until you see-Adobe Digital Editions Installer. Click on ‘Install’. Follow the prompts to complete the download of Adobe Digital Editions to your computer’s desktop.

  

Step 2-Activation of Adobe Digital Editions

The first time Adobe Digital Editions opens, a prompt will display

 

1. Select 'Authorize Computer'.

2. If you have an Adobe ID: Enter the email address and password for your Adobe account.

3. If you do not have an Adobe ID: Click 'Get an Adobe ID'.

     An Adobe webpage will open. Follow the instructions to create an Adobe ID. You will need to enter an email address, and create a password. Return to the Activation screen, and enter the email address and password for your Adobe account.

4. Click 'Activate'.

Authorization allows you to download to multiple computers and transfer to an eBook reader.

Be sure to authorize every computer and eBook reader using the same Adobe ID.

 

Step 3– Search, Check out, download

· Go to the library’s home page at www.MyPublicLibrary.ca

· Click on the ‘Download Audiobooks’ icon. This will open a new browser displaying the Ontario Library Service Download Centre - the library’s ‘Virtual Branch’.

· Select ‘Login’ (tab along the top of screen). Select Libraries N to S. Select Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield Public Library. Enter your library card number and select sign-in.

 

1. Browse: Search by title, subject, author, or format.

2. Checkout: Add selections to your ‘cart’. Note. If a title is not available, you may place a hold. You will receive an email when the title is available. Click on the ‘Proceed to checkout’ link.

3. Select ‘Confirm Checkout’.

4. Select ‘Download’ and then ‘open’. This will download the selected book to Adobe Digital Editions for you to read on your computer. 

 

Step 4-Transfer to a Mobile Device

After download, most titles can be transferred to a mobile device such as Kobo or Sony Reader. First connect your device, then:

 

 

1. Your E-Reader will appear within Adobe Digital Editions along the left hand side panel.

2. Click, Drag, and drop the title onto the device name.

3. After transfer is complete, safely disconnect your device to complete the transfer.

4. Enjoy your title on the go!
