Children's Programs

The Selwyn Public Library offers programs for children of all ages. 

Below is a list of all the programs for children that are currently offered by the Selwyn Public Library.

We’re trying to see how long we can make our new community rock snake. Add your rock anytime to help grow our friend in the Ennismore Pollinator Garden at the Ennismore branch.

Visit our special library tent to grab a craft, play with Lego and BIG bubbles, visit a Storywalk and complete a scavenger hunt at the Lakefield Farmers' Market.

Dates: Thursdays – June 19, July 17, August 21

Join the TD Summer Reading Club anytime this summer for stories, games, crafts, contests and much more. These special weekly programs for children are designed to help keep them reading all summer while having fun. There will be six weeks for two different age groups of programs at all branches. Programs begin the week of July 8.  You can sign up for specific weeks only or attend all summer. See the links below to register and guarantee your child’s spot in these fun programs.

Come play with the Selwyn Public Library's giant Lego Collection! Ages 8 and under attend with an adult.

Engaging presentations by children’s authors Lana Button and Nadia L. Hohn with introductions by local children.

RSVP to receive reminders and extra information regarding our special event

Read the books you want, and keep track of your reading online. Every time you finish a book, you will receive a ballot for our big prize draw at the end of August.  For participants entering grades 5 to 9 in fall 2025.

Date: Begins Friday, June 27
Additional activities may be offered to participants, depending on registration.

We’ll be partnering with the Peterborough Child and Family Centre to offer literacy and nature-based programming for young families at the Lakefield Community Garden at Lakefield District Public school. Come by anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. for activities, crafts, Storywalks and an ending story and song circle.

Rock Painting 101: Use our paints to design your rocks to take home and to add to our rock snake.

Blast off to tour the universe in the Ontario Planetarium travelling dome! You will have an astronomist to tour you through spectacular sights of our world and in space. Children attend with an adult, and adults are also welcome to attend without a child.

Register to receive a bag of library material on various learning topics at your children’s levels.  Includes “learn to read bags, theme investigations and  the opportunity to choose your own topic.

Pick up your colouring sheet in-branch, or register to have a sheet emailed to you. Colour your sheet for a chance to win a small prize in our draw. Email Kathleen for a colouring sheet
