Children's Programs

The Selwyn Public Library offers programs for children of all ages. 

Below is a list of all the programs for children that are currently offered by the Selwyn Public Library.

December 2025 Holiday Children's Programs

Beginning December 1, we will be visited yet again at each branch by our library Elves on the Shelf. Look for the Elf when you visit, and, if you find the Elf, make sure to enter a ballot in our December draw for the chance to win a special prize bag.

Register to receive a kit with holiday DVDs, hot chocolate & popcorn for your family. Choose G or PG-rated movies. Kits are limited. Pick up on Friday, December 5 at your local branch. 2-week loan.

Join Kathleen for holiday bounces, rhymes, games and song for your young family.

We’re offering a special programming day for children to make holiday crafts to give as gifts. Children attend with an adult.

Winter 2026 Children's Programs

Engaging stories, songs, games, instruments and crafts for your school age child. One Saturday per month. Join us on the dates you wish to attend.

Join us monthly for stories, songs, and finger plays the whole family can enjoy. 

Dates: Mondays –  December 8, January 12, February 9, March 23, April 13

Register for Family Storytime

A special time for you and your baby where you learn rhymes, bounces and tickles and other activities to engage your child. Stories and instrument play are incorporated into the program as well as a social time in the library.

Dates: Begins Thursday, January 15 for six weeks
Time: 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

A fast-paced program for toddlers with active stories, songs, bounces, fingerplays, instrument play and more, followed by a 30-minute playtime.

Kathleen and Corny the Squirrel can’t wait to take you on a journey through 8 weeks of stories, songs, drama, instrument play, and more! Each program is based on developing the 6 early literacy skills. Each week this program wraps up a fun craft that extends the story and builds fine motor skills.

Register for Winter Storytimes

Beginning the week of January 20, our grades 3 to 6 clubs will meet three times from January to April for fun book-related activities and a wrap-up voting day and pizza party. Kids choose books from Canada-wide reading lists and “read” at least 5/10 titles at home to vote for their favourite author. Clubs will meet at all branches. Lakefield will meet on Tuesdays, Bridgenorth on Wednesdays, and Ennismore on Thursdays.

The library penguins have escaped their books! Can you help us find them? Visit the Bridgenorth Library to get a hunt sheet, find the penguins and enter a special draw for a polar-themed prize.

Pick up your colouring sheet in-branch, or register to have a sheet emailed to you. Colour your sheet for a chance to win a small prize in our draw. Email Kathleen for a colouring sheet

Register to receive a bag of library material on various learning topics at your children’s levels.  Includes “learn to read bags, theme investigations and  the opportunity to choose your own topic.
